Moscow: Russia on Friday made fun of the arrest warrant issued for President Vladimir Putin. Russia has called the International Criminal Court’s decision void in front of the whole world, because Moscow does not recognize the jurisdiction of the Hague-based court. Russia’s top officials are extremely angry with this decision, while Putin’s critics praised the move.

According to an AFP report, Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media, ‘Russia, like many other countries, does not recognize the jurisdiction of this court.’ Russia is not even a member of the ICC, so from a legal point of view, the decisions of this court are void. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the decisions of the International Criminal Court (ICC) have no meaning for Russia. Opposition Mikhail Khodorkovsky said on social media, ‘Congratulations to Vladimir on his arrest! This is just the first step. Vladimir Milov, an aide of opposition politician Alexei Navalny, tweeted, “Lock him in jail.”

Why did the court issue the arrest warrant
According to the BBC, the court has made serious allegations like war crimes against Putin. Along with this, the Russian President is also accused of forcibly taking Ukrainian children to Russia illegally. It has said that these crimes have been committed since February 24, 2022, when Russia started fully infiltrating Ukraine. Although Moscow has rejected all war crime allegations including infiltration. The ICC has accused Putin of being involved in the deportation of children, and has said that it has reasonable grounds to believe that he directly committed these acts, as well as assisted others in doing so. The court also said that the Russian president had failed to exercise his authority to prevent others from deporting the children.
