Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on Friday that Moscow has successfully tested a new missile defense system at its Sary Shagan firing range in neighboring Kazakhstan, according to a Moscow Times report. The ministry said in its statement that the anti-missile defense system has been handed over to the Russian Air Force, which will protect the country from air and space attacks.

At the same time, the head of Russia’s missile defense unit, Major General Sergei Grabchuk, said that after a series of tests, the new missile defense system has achieved the set results with great efficiency every time. He further said that this missile defense system can hit a conditional target with utmost accuracy, even if the missile is fired from space.

Russia is upgrading the defense system around Moscow

Already equipped with the next-generation S-500 hypersonic missile defense system, Russia is busy making its cities impregnable. After the blowback from the attack on Ukraine, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Wednesday spoke in favor of using next-generation weapons in the fight. Speaking at a government board meeting, Shoigu said the state’s defense ministry will be completed in 2023 to ensure a steady supply of weapons and equipment to the armed forces. Budget is expected to increase by 150%.
