The impact of the Kovid-19 epidemic continues to leave its mark on the auto industry. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) has released the figures for the financial year 2021. On the basis of these, there has been a 30% decline in the registration of vehicles annually. At the same time, there has been a decline of 31% in April 2021 on a monthly basis. Tractors are the only category in which growth has been observed.
In the financial year 2021, 6,44,779 tractors were registered. During the financial year 2020, 5,55,315 tractors were registered. That means 89,464 tractor registrations were higher with growth of 16.11% in FY’21.

In April 2021, the vehicles registered a decline of 31.83% year-on-year in registration. During this period, tractors and others (electric vehicles) were the only categories in which there was an increase. Tractor registrations surged by 3.52% year-on-year and 13.06% in other categories. There was a decline in all other categories. Three wheeler declined by 55.59%, two-wheeler by 35.35%, light commercial vehicle (LCV) by 35.03%, commercial vehicle by 34.58%, medium commercial vehicle (MCV) by 24.79%.
Monthly registration also fell in April 2021
Monthly registration of vehicles declined by 28.15% last month. During this period, the biggest decline was in the tractor category. In March 2021, 69,082 tractors were registered, which decreased to 38,285 in April 2021. That is, the registration of 30,797 tractors decreased by 44.58%. Similarly, 27.63% in 2W, 43.11% in 3W, 25.33% in PV, 23.65% in CV, 25.85% in LCV, 23.93% in MCV, 13.69% in HCV and 41.31% in others.
Maruti holds 48% share in PV
Maruti held 48.73% market share in the passenger vehicle (PV) segment in the financial year 2021. Its market share in the financial year 2020 was 48.33%. Hyundai at number two with 17.36% market share, Tata at number three with 7.87% market share, Kia with 5.50% market share at number four and Mahindra & Mahindra at number five with 5.35% market share.
Hero and Honda incinerate in two-wheeler
In the two-wheeler (PV) segment in FY 2021, Hero MotoCorp Limited had the highest market share of 35.81%. It was followed by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Private Limited with 25.72%. It was followed by TVS with 14.79%, Bajaj Auto with 11.15% and Royal Enfield with 4.18%.
